Our Story

Climate Collective started with a hackathon in India in 2016. Now we are growing fast to build the largest early-stage climatetech startup support platform in South Asia.

VISION

Our Vision is to see a world where climate and cleantech entrepreneurs in the Global South play a key role in solving our pressing environmental problems by developing new, innovative products and services that are brought to the market through startups.

Besides there being more equity in building together a more sustainable world, we believe that those closest to the problem are often the best ones to develop solutions that are actually implementable and scalable. And so an inclusive strategy to develop the entrepreneurship talent and opportunities in climate across the Global South will likely lead to a much stronger outcome for both developing countries and the world.

MISSION

Our Mission is to extend the Climate Collective platforms to every one of the 77 countries in the Global South by 2025, supporting 1500 climate and cleantech startups each year that are entering market validation phase of the Startup Journey

HISTORY

Climate Collective started its activities in 2016 through supporting India’s first solar hackathon in 2016. Exploring further, the Collective then launched in 2017 its first cleantech accelerator, ClimateLaunchpad, in Maharashtra. Quickly, the program grew to four more states and Sri Lanka in 2018. And now, over the last three years, over 470+ cleantech startups have joined this program in India and South Asia.

Building on the ClimateLaunchpad program, we have built follow-on accelerators (such as Climate Runway, Climate Takeoff, ElectronVibe, etc) and pre-accelerators (such as Climate Ready) and have seen 470+ climate and cleantech startups go through our programs over the last 3 years, with nearly 200 climate and climatetech startups joining each year.

Realizing that there are many gaps in support for climate and cleantech startups in South Asia, we started to think more deeply about the ecosystem needs in 2019 and began developing platforms around funding (Climate Seeds, Climate Angels Network, etc), education (Climate Startup School), policy research, and community activities (Climate Startup Week, Climate Collective Network, etc).
